Challenge
At an electronics manufacturing site, palletized components were manually unloaded and opened before conveyor transfer. Workers handled each box and cut it open by hand, making the process labor-intensive, repetitive, and prone to safety risks such as cuts, hand injuries, and strain.
-
Solutions
CMES Robotics deployed a fully integrated automation system combining AI 3D vision based depalletizing with robotic box cutting, tailored to the site’s manufacturing process. The system detects each box’s position, size, and orientation in real time and unloads it onto the conveyor. A 6-axis robot with a custom cutting end effector then measures box height and performs precise cuts without damaging contents. High-accuracy 3D vision and advanced control algorithms ensure consistent cutting quality across varying box shapes and materials.
-
Result
The automated solution significantly reduced physical labor and minimized the use of knives and cutting tools, improving workplace safety and reducing the risk of accidents.
AI-driven path planning enables the robot to determine cutting routes autonomously, which dramatically lowered product damage rates compared to manual processing.
By eliminating dependence on worker availability and manual workload, the customer resolved staffing challenges associated with irregular inbound schedules and achieved more stable operational continuity on the production floor.
